Roberto Clemente hit a dramtic 3 run homer in the bottom of the 9th inning, giving the Pittsburg Pirates a 7-6 victory over the San Francisco Giants. The Giants had re-taken the lead in the top of the 8th with a 4 run outburst but Pittsburg got one back in the bottom of the 8th before Clemente hit his walk-off 3 run shot. Pittsburg ended up taking 2 of 3 games in this series between the two division leaders and evened the season head to head matchups at 4 games apiece. |

Roberto Clemente went yard and had 3 RBI at Three Rivers Stadium as the
Pittsburgh Pirates pulled off a dramatic comeback beating the San Francisco
Giants by the count of 7 to 6.
Pittsburgh had the winning rally in the bottom of the 9th inning scoring 3
runs using 2 hits. After an out was recorded, Bill Mazeroski opened up the
rally as he stroked a one-base hit. Rennie Stennett came next and he reached
on an error. Clemente then clubbed a three-run home run (his 10th of the
season) giving Pittsburgh the win much to the delight of the home town crowd.
Pittsburgh totaled 12 hits on the afternoon.
Mudcat Grant(3-1) went 1 and 1/3 innings allowing no runs for the victory.
Steve Hamilton(3-4) was hit with the loss in relief. 'What a game!,' Grant
said afterward. 'When we won it I almost couldn't believe it!'
