Mike Epstein smacked 2 homeruns and had 4 RBI at Oakland Coliseum as the

Oakland A's beat the Detroit Tigers 7 to 5.

Epstein made sure the Oakland fans enjoyed themselves. He popped a two-run

clout over the fence in the 3rd inning, smashed a two-run homer (his 20th of

the season) in the 6th inning and lined a single in the 8th inning. Detroit

had a chance in the 9th but they came up short.

Catfish Hunter(13-8) allowed 5 runs in 7 innings, and picked up the victory.

Hunter got relief help from Rollie Fingers who gained credit for his 3rd

save. Joe Coleman Jr(13-6) took the loss. He was unable to control the

Oakland offense and allowed 11 hits and 2 walks in 7 innings.

'I had a little blister on my index finger before the game, but I thought it

was nothing.' Hunter said. 'I was lucky I got a win because I couldn't put

the ball where I wanted it.'
