1971 NL Replay- July 20 SF vs. Pitt

Gaylord Perry and the San Francisco Giants defeated the Pittsburg Pirates 4-2 in the 1st of a 3 game series at Three Rivers Stadium between the two NL division leaders. Perry had his 22 consecutive scoreless innings pitched streak end when the Pirates got a run in the 2nd, but he held them to only 1 more run the rest of the way to get the victory. His record now stands at 14-5 with a 1.79 ERA. The Giants lead the season series between the two teams, 4 games to 2.

Gaylord Perry was able to finish what he started and was credited with a



complete game at Three Rivers Stadium where the San Francisco Giants beat the



Pittsburgh Pirates 4 to 2.







In the 3rd inning San Francisco went on top for good scoring a single run



using 2 hits. Pittsburgh threatened in the 9th but their rally came up



short.







Perry(14-5) was the winner allowing 2 runs for the game. Steve Blass(12-5)



took the loss. 'You have to give Pittsburgh credit, they fought us tough to



the end' Charlie Fox said. 'It could have gone either way, but I'm glad we



pulled out the victory.'
