1971 AL Replay-July 15 Det. vs. Oak.

Play resumed after the All-Star break with Detroit at Oakland for the start of a 3 game series between the 2 teams that lead their respective divisions. Tonight the Tigers won 4-2, getting a fine pitching performance from Mickey Lolich who got his 11th complete game of the season. Lolich struck out 8 and allowed 5 hits, one of which was a home run in the 1st inning by Reggie Jackson that accounted for both Oakland runs. He shut the A's down the rest of the way and upped his W-L record to 15-6. Mickey got off to bad start in April going 2-5 with a 4.81 era. He then reeled off an 11-1 record over his next 17 starts and lowered his era to 2.63. At one point, from May 19 to May 31, he pitched 31 concecutive scoreless innings.

Mickey Lolich went the distance at Oakland Coliseum as the phenomenal Detroit

Tigers beat the Oakland A's by the count of 4 to 2.



Lolich(15-6) had a strong outing. He didn't allow much, just 5 hits and 3

walks in 9 innings. Detroit rapped out 9 hits for the night.



Chuck Dobson(7-5) was hit with the loss. The winning ways continue for

Detroit. They now have a record of 9-1 in recent days. With the loss, the

Oakland ballclub's record is 56-32.
