Rudy May(2-1) thrilled the fans at Anaheim Stadium as he crafted a no-hit
masterpiece against the Cleveland Indians. The California Angels won by a
final score of 7 to 0.
May provided a brilliant, unforgettable performance for the hometown crowd at
Anaheim Stadium evening. He walked 3 Cleveland batters. What an evening for
the fans. They were on the edge of their seats from the 7th inning on. With
every out, the electricity in the air mounted. May recorded 10 strikeouts.
California managed 9 in their victory.
Steve Dunning(0-2) was the losing pitcher. It took a while to pry May way
from his teammates as they all wanted to show their appreciation and joy.
Finally, however, Lefty Phillips got to offer his own congratulations with a
big bear hug and the comment, 'That was one of the best pitched games I have
seen in all my years in baseball - May was masterful out there tonight!'
