In a wild game at Fenway Park tonight, Willie Horton(pictured) hit 3 home runs and drove in 7, but the  Tigers still lost to the Red Sox 11-9. Good pitching was not to be found in this game where the lead changed hands 5 times before Boston finally came out on top after a 4 run 7th. Detroit out-hit Boston 12-9 and out-homered the Sox 4-2, but it still wasn't enough firepower as the Tiger 'pen couldn't hold a lead. |

In a tight game it was the Boston Red Sox 11, the Detroit Tigers 9 at Fenway
Park.
George Scott had a good evening at the plate. He doubled scoring a run in the
1st inning and lost the ball over the fence for three runs (his 20th of the
season) in the 7th inning. This was a game of many highs and lows for the
home town fans, as the lead kept changing - 5 times in all.
Bill Lee(3-4) was the winner allowing 1 run in 2 innings. Lee was helped out
by Sparky Lyle who recorded his 16th save. Ron Perranoski(2-4) took the loss
in relief.
Willie Horton launched 3 homeruns for Detroit but his effort was wasted in the
loss.
