A game that started out as a pitching duel between Detroit's Les Cain and Oakland's Vida Blue turned into a blow-out win for Oakland 12-4. The game entered the 8th inning with Oakland leading 3-2 . Detroit scored 2 runs in the top of the 8th taking a 4-3 lead but the Tigers bullpen couldn't close the door in the bottom of the 8th on the A's who got a pinch hit grandslam home run from Mike Epstein and a 3 run homer from Reggie Jackson .
