Willie Horton hit one over the fence as the dominant Detroit Tigers defeated
the New York Yankees in 10 innings by the score of 7 to 6 at Tiger
Stadium.
The game was deadlocked at 4 after nine full innings. Finally, Detroit pulled
the game out in the 10th inning. Mickey Stanley kicked off the action when
he stroked a one-base hit. After an out was recorded, Horton came to the
plate and lined a base-hit. Horton took second on the throw. Norm Cash then
belted a three-run homer (his 44th of the season) making Detroit the winners
and sending the 44,716 fans home happy. Detroit rapped out 11 hits for the
afternoon.
The winning pitcher was Tom Timmermann(10-4) who allowed 2 runs in 1 inning.
Fritz Peterson(16-12) ended up with the loss. He allowed 3 homeruns in 9 and
1/3 innings of work.
