Willie Horton's return from the DL was a 'smashing' success for the Tigers tonight as Detroit defeated the NY Yankees 13-7. Horton hit a 2-run homer in his first plate appearance in more than a month in the 1st inning then, then added another 2-run blast his next time up in the 2nd while going 3 for 5 and driving in 5 runs. The Tigers hit 6 hr's on the night and Les Cain picked up his 14th victory of the season. Detroit now has a 4 game lead over 2nd place Baltimore, who lost tonight in Cleveland, and with only a few games left in the season can breath a little easier. Detroit's magic number is down to 2. |
