1934 AL Replay

May 17, 1934

The AL leading New York Yankees came to Detroit today for the start of a 3 game series. The Tigers came away with a 7-2 victory, moving them into a tie for 1st , behind a great pitching performance from Tommy Bridges (pictured) who picked up his 3rd victory of the season. 2nd sacker Charlie Gehringer led the Bengal hitting attack going 3 for 5 and the Yankees commited 4 errors leading to 3 unearned runs for the home team.

Charlie Gehringer had 3 base hits and Tommy Bridges was able to finish what he

started and was credited with a complete game at Navin Field where the

Detroit Tigers beat the New York Yankees by the score of 7 to

2.



Bridges(3-1) pitched well for Detroit in their victory. He went 9 innings

allowing 6 hits and 4 walks lowering his ERA to 3.89. Detroit finished with

12 hits in the victory.



Russ Van Atta(1-2) was the loser. He got hit pretty hard, allowing 11 hits

and 4 walks in 7 and 2/3 innings.
