Willie Horton continued his assault on Red Sox pitching in the final game of a 5 game series in  Boston by going 4 for 5 and hitting a game winning 2 run homer in the 11th inning, propelling the Detroit Tigers to a 9-5 victory. Dick McAuliffe(pictured) went 4 for 6 with 2 hr's and 5 rbi, accouning for all the Detroit scoring in regulation, but it was Horton's home run in extra innings that was the final blow allowing the Tigers to win the game and take the series from the Sox 4 games to 1. |

Second baseman Dick McAuliffe smashed 2 homeruns and had 5 RBI as the potent
Detroit Tigers defeated the Boston Red Sox in 11 innings 9 to 5 at Fenway
Park.
The game was deadlocked at 4 after nine full innings. Detroit was victorious
in the 11th inning. The big moment was provided by Willie Horton who
deflated the mood of the partisan fans when he popped a two-run clout over
the fence (his 25th of the season). Despite losing, Boston out-hit Detroit
16 to 12.
Tom Timmermann(8-0) allowed no runs in 1 inning, and picked up the victory.
Ken Brett(2-2) was the losing pitcher in relief. 'Some days it just all
comes together, and this was one of them' McAuliffe said. 'I've been seeing
the ball pretty well lately.'
