Visit to Fenway Park in Boston and Chase Field in Phoenix

Thought I'd update my MLB ballpark 'quest'. As noted earlier in this blog, I'm trying to see at least one new ballpark a year. In August I went to Boston for the first time and saw Fenway Park, home the Boston Red Sox. What a great ballpark!! Lots of history here and I actually got chills walking inside it for the first time. I took a morning tour of Fenway and then saw 3 games over the next 3 days. The Red Sox won all 3, the first one with an exciting come from behind victory in the bottom of the ninth! Boston has to be one of the best cities I've ever been to. I look forward to returning in the future and spending more time there.

Dave

Back in April while visiting my Dad in Arizona (for his 75th birthday), we went to a Diamondback game at Chase Field with my brother who flew in from California. Hadn't been to a game there since it was BankOne Ballpark but it is still one the the friendliest ballparks i've been too.

1971 NL AsPlayed Replay

Time to show what's been happening in the NL during this 1971 replay. While I've been manually playing all the Detroit Tigers games in the AL, I've auto played most of the games in the NL. The games I have managed include teams that some of my favorite players, that I followed during their actual careers, play for: Phil Niekro and Hank Aaron of the Atlanta Braves; Gary Nolan and Pete Rose of the Cinncinati Reds; Glen Beckert, Ron Santo and Fergie Jenkins of the Chicago Cubs; and Roberto Clemente of the Pittsburg Pirates. So far the Pittsburg Pirates, after a slow start in April, have taken control of the NL East. In the NL West, San Francisco and Los Angeles are battling for 1st while getting some competition from Atlanta and Cinncinati. Still, the season is only about half-way complete and anything can happen. Below, are the standings as of July 7, 1971.

Third baseman Aurelio Rodriguez connected with a 'big fly' and had 5 RBI and
Joe Coleman Jr was able to finish what he started and was credited with a
complete game at Tiger Stadium as the Detroit Tigers beat the Baltimore
Orioles by the count of 8 to 2.

Rodriguez enjoyed a fine day at the plate. He lined a one-base hit plating two
runs in the 1st inning and lost the ball over the fence for three runs (his
8th of the season) in the 7th inning. Detroit had 11 hits for the afternoon.

Coleman Jr(12-5), allowing 2 runs for the game, picked up the victory. Mike
Cuellar(7-10) was the losing pitcher. He pitched 6 innings giving up 6 hits
and 2 walks.
