The 2009 season is over for my Detroit Tigers. They lost their divisional playoff series 3 games to 1 to the AL wildcard New York Yankees. A disappointing end to a very good regular season for the Tigers. While the team hitting was pretty good during the series, 21 total runs scored in 4 games, their pitching failed them. AL Cy Young Award winner Justin Verlander lost both his starts and gave up 4 hr's, ending up with a 7.71 era. The Bronx Bombers lived up to their nickname hitting 9 hr's and scoring 26 runs in the 4 games. The game scores were; Game 1: 7-3 NY., Game 2: 8-7 NY., Game 3: 10-4 DET., and Game 4: 7-1 NY.
New York will now travel to Los Angeles to play the Angels in the AL Championship Series. LA defeated the Boston Red Sox 3 games to 2 in the other AL Division Championship Series.
In the NL Divisional playoffs the Chicago Cubs swept the NY Mets in 3 games and the LA Dodgers won their series against Philadelphia 3 games to 1. Chicago will host the Dodgers in game 1 of the NL Championship Series starting tomorrow night.
